Children at the House of Hope

Children’s Ministry at the House of Hope

The House of Hope delights in children, and we are working to provide a lively, fun, meaningful beginning to their faith journey.   As we begin our new season in Houserville, we are focusing on three areas:

  1. Providing an engaging Sunday worship experience for everyone, including children. We have children’s worship bulletins to help kids follow along and understand worship each week, as well as drawing supplies, quiet games, and banners kids can wave in praise.  We also have a great worship space in the balcony where kids can move around or work at tables. It’s the perfect place for kids and kids at heart to be comfortable and still connected to worship.  Because we feel that worship is so important, we have chosen NOT to have a traditional children’s Sunday School on Sunday mornings.  Instead, we will have a separate teaching/activity time on Wednesday evenings. We have equipped the nursery with speakers so parents can continue to worship while attending to baby needs.  Our eventual goal is to have complete nursery care for infants and toddlers available during worship as well.
  2. Providing Mid-week Friendship/Faith Development.  Every Wednesday beginning October 7, we will offer a community meal followed by classes for both kids and adults. Families will be able to eat dinner together and then enjoy age-appropriate faith development activities and discussions. The kids’ curriculum is called 252 Basics and focuses on three main components: Wisdom (“I need to make the wise choice”) Friendship (“I should treat others the way I want to be treated”) and Faith (“I can trust God no matter what.”)  Each month focuses on using fun and meaningful activities to develop a specific virtue, but these three components are interwoven throughout.
  3. Providing Occasional Full Day Special Activity Days. Every month or so, we will offer special day-long events on no-school days (this will also help our working families). During these Activity Days, we’ll have more time to do creative activities and dig into our faith in a fun and active way.
